Hindus believe in the one God but theirs is a God that comes in many forms. Legends have grown up telling of the attributes of God and Hindu temples are full of statues and pictures showing Gods in human and animal form. Hinduism is not a religion in itself but more a family of religions made up of the devotees who focus on God in different ways. The majority of traditions nevertheless share the same colourful festivals and honour the cow as a sacred animal.
