Set in the 1960s, Brides of Christ tells the story of a group of nuns in a fictitious inner city convent school in Sydney during a time of radical upheaval in society and in the Catholic Church. In the era of Vietnam and the Rolling Stones, established disciplines and rites are questioned in a collision between an ancient institution and the modern world. The series shows nuns as highly spirited questioning women, with sexual feelings and very human failings. The sixhour series (which originally screened on ABC TV in September 1991), has won numerous awards including a TV Week Logie Award for Most Outstanding Mini-series, a gold medal for Best Mini-series at the International Film and Television Festival, New York, and AFI Awards for Best Mini-series/Telefeature and Best Screenplay. Boasting an impressive Australian cast, the series established the careers of many young Australian actors including Naomi Watts, Kym Wilson, Josephine Byrnes and Russell Crowe and is produced by Sue Masters who also brought us Sea Change, Changi, and The Secret Life of Us. Ep3. Ambrose: This classic Australian series follows a group of spirited young girls in an inner-city convent school struggling with their changing wants and desires.
