Tourists are found in places where there are spectacular and colourful natural features such as forest and coasts, valleys and mountains, icy lands and deserts. Be it cities, towns or rural areas, where people have made dramatic changes to the landscape over time and live colourful ways of life, tourists want to go there. The programme highlights the management principles such as maintaining biodiversity by habitat protection and planning for sustainability from a tourism perspective. Tourism is rapidly becoming the worlds premier economic activity. It takes place even in remote places like Antarctica. Following the case studies in the programme students are invited to think about the definition of tourism and the economic, environmental, social and cultural impacts of tourism.
