The toilet may be one of the most important inventions mankind has ever made, helping turn ancient Rome into an empire and also enabling mankind to venture into apace. In 315 AD the Romans had the first public toilet and in 1858 London suffered the "Great Stink" as sewage gathered on the banks of the Thames River.
