Animals in Their Habitats The African Savannah

Savannah areas are arguably the most important natural environments to human beings, and as a result are also the most damaged and endangered habitats in the world. Naturally occurring savannah has disappeared over the centuries as humans have widely practiced agriculture and built urban developments on these areas. As a result, many types of Savannah animals (and plants) have become extinct, and many today are endangered. While land for human survival is important, so too is the need for conservation. This program looks at African Savannah and a number of examples of animals that exist naturally in Savannah habitats in various parts of the continent; how their habitat supports them; and various physical, behavioural and social adaptations they have made in order to exist in the Savannah environment. Some of these animals are threatened or endangered, largely because of loss of habitat. This program also underlines the importance of conservation of grasslands and the species that live in them.
