Ladies First - Women Rebuild Rwanda

Ten years after the bloody genocide, Rwandas women are leading their countrys healing process and taking their society forward into a different future. In 1994 women and girls made up 70% of the population of Rwanda a result of the civil war and genocide that had devastated the country. Traditionally, Rwandan women had never been allowed to own land, open a bank account or even work outside the home without their husbands permission. But ten years after the tragic events, there is a radical, social transformation underway. Women have gone from having no voice to becoming outspoken leaders. Today they participate at every level of government & occupy almost half of the seats in the national parliament.
