Tsunami (Storm Stories)

At the Khao Lak Beach Resort in Thailand, elephant trainer, Kritsada Salangam and elephant owner, Animat Jongkit are getting their elephants ready to take tourists into the jungle. The elephants are raising a ruckus, which puzzles the men. They have no idea the elephants might be sensing the danger that is rushing toward them. As Kritsada guides his animal up to a waterfall, the elephant breaks into a run. That's when Kritsada looks over his shoulder and sees 40-foot waves crashing ashore. Twenty miles north, near the village of Ban Nam Khem, Suttipong Pahopas is fishing on the Andaman Sea when his small boat is overtaken by the tsunami. He is thrown into the sea and uses an empty twenty-litre water bottle to stay afloat. He will be stranded five miles out on the sea in 15-foot waves for hours before being washed ashore. Suttipong's wife, Suparat Silao and 3-year-old son Diow, also fight the tsunami as it moves inland. Suparat clutches Diow as she tries to outrun the raging waters but a rush of debris sweeps him from her arms. Mother and son are carried in different directions. After using a Styrofoam cooler to stay afloat, Suparat hitches a ride to a local hospital where she immediately begins to look for her husband and son. The following morning she finds her husband Suttipong but sorrow overshadows their happiness; their son is missing and presumed dead. Will Suttipong and Suparut find their son alive? 1.
