Former Prime Minister John Howard is adamant that Bob Menzies, Australia's longest-serving PM, had a very positive impact on modern Australia. By the mid-1950s, Menzies has been in power as PM for five years. But then peace is disturbed when Soviet spy Vladimir Petrov suddenly defects. Petrov claims the Australian Labor Party (ALP) is involved in espionage while the ALP claims Menzies orchestrated events to get a boost in the polls.
